Thurs Night at the Movies
The great thing about the 48hour Film Festival is that they show the finished films at a REAL theater...popcorn and all! Look at the people lined up to see our film. Ok, maybe they were there to see their own film, but I'm choosing to believe they were there for ours. A live audience really lets you know if your film is good or not. Ours was well received. It's the greatest high when a group of people laugh at your jokes. Thanks 48.
Friends at Opening Night
Check out our sexy friends that we paid to go with us. Kidding, they did look great, though. I forgot to have someone take my picture! I mean it IS my blog damn it! Is it too much to ask for one of you to take my picture! My new Aldo shoes were looking sexy, with my jeans and sport coat. I even had a top button undone to let a hint of chest hair out!

48hour Film Festival
We did another 48hour Film Festival this weekend. It was insane! Friday night at 7:30 we met 34 other teams at a bar. You draw out of a hat to find out what genre you have to make your film in. We drew Detective/Cop this year. They then give you a prop, character, and line of dialogue that has to be in all films. (PROP: bus ticket, CHARACTERr: Gloria Lorenz, Trade Expert, LINE: Forget it, I already have.) Sunday night by 7:30 you have to turn in a completed film. We got there at 7:25, I swear! It is showing at the Roxie in the Mission this Thursday at 7:00 if you want to see. Yeah right, like you're gonna show.
We wrote the script Friday night till way past my bedtime. We started shooting Saturday morning at 7am. Our first location was on Taylor St. The spot where Steve McQueen did the famous car jumping scene in a Ford Fastback. We tried to recreate it with remote control cars..... it was a nightmare! We got the shot, but everything that could go wrong went wrong. We where about to say action when a garbage truck pulls up right into our shot. We waited 10 minutes for them to leave! I don't know if you've ever seen a garbage man collecting garbage on the hills of Taylor St., but it is not a pretty sight. When the guy returned from the bottom of the hill with the garbage can, he was so out of breathe I thought he was going to die. Suddenly I thought, I'm right in the middle of a 48 hour film festival and I might have to give the garbage man CPR.
We also shot in an alley. There are lots of pigeons in a San Francisco alley... one of them shit on our camera. If I ever see him again...
Special thanks to Donna Solanga, you are amazing! Pauby Widjaja, you drive better than Steve McQeen! Nicolas and Gil... you guys were so funny! You bastards, stole the film! And Al, who did all the green screen effects in one day...wow. Good night.

Nenad Went Home
I dropped Nenad off at the airport today. I was said to see him leave. I now have a brother in Serbia. We took him for Sushi last night for a going away party. My dinner never showed up. When we asked our waitress about it she said,"Oh.... we don't serve tofu at night," and then she walked away.
Good luck to you Nenade.

The Villain
I bought our latest actors off the internet. Ebay is a great source to find talent. We are using remote controlled vehicles in our next short. Here is a before and after photo of our next villain. It looked a little too clean so I had to "dirty" it up.
It's not every day that you have a pineapple in your kitchen, so I jumped at the chance to use one in my photo. You can see how big the truck is compared to a pineapple. It is also not every day that you can say, "you can see how big the truck is compared to a pineapple."
When this came in the mail, it felt like Christmas, although I was at work so I didn't get to open it in my pajamas.

Vintagius Rotarius
Here are some photos of a short we are putting the final edits on. My sculpture degree makes me love to use "found objects" as actors. The premise of the film is some cell phone archaeologists are digging in a blizzard and stumble upon a once thought of mythological creature named Vintagius Rotarius (Rotary phone). They dig it out and the ice starts to melt, bringing it back to life. It then proceeds to terrorize the cell phones.
The background sky photo is a six foot print out of an image our friend Jeremy painted digitally for us. We even paid him real money to do it!
The snow is a hundred dollars of baby powder that we are still cleaning up! That's right this film had a budget, people.

Green Screen
Yesterday was a good day. Our ideas have led us to need some green screen shots. We had a blast. The school where I work has a great room that already has lights installed and everything else you need to be Neo. The other guy in these photos is Al. Al knows his way around the green room and was a tremendous help. That's right, I said tremendous. My vocabulary is huge today! A hippopotamus has hairy hoofs. Wow! Where am I channeling this from? That was alliteration (the repetition of the first consonant sound in a phrase.) Assonance is repetition of vowel sounds. Why it needs to have an ass in front of it, I don't know.
